The Sri Venkateswara
Nithya Annadanam Scheme provides free meals to the
poor in Tirumala.
The scheme was started on a
small scale in 1984, with food being served to
around 2,000 persons a day. Today, free food is
served to a minimum of 15,000 poor people a day.
The number increases to about 25,000 to 30,000 a
day during festivals and other important
occasions.

The minimum contribution for
the scheme is Rs. 1,000, and multiples thereof.
All donations are deposited in a nationalised
bank, and the interest earned is utilised for the
scheme.
Donations can be made by
individuals, firms, companies, etc., and they are
eligible for exemption of income tax under Section
80 (g) of the Indian Income Tax Act. |

Privileges |

Donors who pay Rs. 5 lakh
and above will be extended the following
facilities:
- Accommodation, free
of cost, at Tirumala for three days in a year.
- Free special
darshan, with harati, for 3 days in a
year for 5 persons during break time. The
donor should inform the Deputy Executive
Officer (Annadanam Trust) one month in advance
of his visit.
- The donor's name
will be displayed prominently in the dining
hall at the Annadanam Complex.
- It is not possible
to perform the Annadanam either on behalf of a
particular donor or on a specified date. It
may be taken that once a donation is made to
the scheme, Annadanam is performed on all 365
days in a year, and on behalf of all the
Donors who have contributed to the Scheme.
- The donor will be
presented with one set of gold-plated silver
coins.
